Mana Cycle Group
Mana Cycle Group (MCG) evolved from a small group of enthusiasts making mountain bike trails and to generally support cycling in the Mana area. In 2009 Porirua City Council bought Colonial Knob Parklands, intending to develop mountain bike and other recreational trails on the land, kicking off our plans to create a national-standard community mountain bike trail park on Rangituhi-Colonial Knob including multi-use trails.
This has grown into today’s Te Ara a Rangituhi - The Rangituhi Trails partnership between MCG, Porirua City Council, the Department of Conservation and local iwi, Ngati Toa.
MCG supports the proposed Porirua Adventure Park which will host a gondola-accessed bike park, indoor standing surf wave, zipline and scenic, accessible trails for sightseeing and hiking on Rangituhi-Colonial Knob.. The park is in the capital raise phase and receiving expressions of interest from any parties who may want to invest.
Our Vision is:
Mana has become a better place to mountain bike and cycle, for all ages and abilities, from beginners through to experts, with:
Other activities
We also lobby for general cycling infrastructure to improve safety and connections and get more people on their bikes. We are an officially recognised submitter on Transmission Gully which means the developers and the New Zealand Transport Agency must consult us on protecting and improving cycling connections.
We are actively involved in promoting cycling opportunities and connections with Tawa and further south, in Whitireia Park and in the Battle Hill Farm Forest Park.
We have also planted trees to stabilise steep slopes on Rangituhi-Colonial Knob and helped with pest eradication.
