Mana Cycle Group
Around the turn of the millennium we had great mountain bike single track in Whitby forest which attracted mountain bikers from throughout the region. This was closed up for logging in 2003 and turned over to housing development.
Mana Cycle Group (MCG) evolved from a small group of enthusiasts making trails to fill this gap and to generally support cycling in the Mana area. In 2009 Porirua City Council bought Colonial Knob Parklands, intending to develop mountain bike and other recreational trails on the land, kicking off our plans to create a national-standard community mountain bike trail park on Rangituhi-Colonial Knob including multi-use trails.
This has grown into today’s Te Ara a Rangituhi - The Rangituhi Trails partnership between MCG, Porirua City Council, the Department of Conservation and local iwi, Ngati Toa.

Mana has become a better place to mountain bike and cycle, for all ages and abilities, from beginners through to experts, with:

Other activities
We have also coordinated bike-to-work days and run successful free bike fit-it days in Porirua.
We also lobby for general cycling infrastructure to improve safety and connections and get more people on their bikes. We are an officially recognised submitter on Transmission Gully which means the developers and the New Zealand Transport Agency must consult us on protecting and improving cycling connections.
We have also planted trees to stabilise steep slopes on Rangituhi-Colonial Knob and helped with pest eradication.
