Other places to mountain bike in and around the Mana area

There are two key sites with GPS routes and descriptions:

Trailforks was published by Pinkbike in 2014 and is fast becoming a comprehensive resource for track research in NZ and globally.

Tracks.org.nz is an excellent resource containing most of the local walking, running and biking tracks. It provides GPS routes, detailed descriptions and whether the track allows walking, biking or both.

These links take you directly to the local areas within our Mana area:
  • Porirua
  • Plimmerton
  • Battle Hill Forest Park
  • Tawa
  • Belmont Regional Park
  • Whareroa Farm accessed from McKay's Crossing exit on SH1 north of Paekakariki, Kapiti MTB Club has developed a long easy uphill providing stunning coastal views.  They are currently building a range of downhill options.
  • Akatarawa Forest is home of New Zealand's longest running icon MTB event the "Akas" straddle rugged country between the Hutt Valley and Kapiti Coast on the northern fringe of Porirua. This ranges from easy 4WD roads to nasty eroded 4WD granny-cog ascents to secret jungle single track in never-neverland.

Porirua City Council also has a great Cycling and Mountain Biking page.

Further afield there are:
  • Makara Peak
  • Wainuiomata Trail Project
  • Polhill
  • Mt Vic
  • Miramar Track Project
