Mana Cycle Group (MCG) is a volunteer-based club with full charitable status focused on making the Mana area (from Pukerua Bay to Tawa) a better place to mountain bike and cycle, for all ages and abilities.
Mana Cycle Group as we know it today was formed in 2010 following the merger of Tawa Off Road Riders Club (TORC) and a formative MCG which had been around since 2006. We started working with Porirua City Council to build trails on Rangituhi in 2012.
MCG’s primary focus has been on creating a national-standard community mountain bike trail park on Rangituhi-Colonial Knob, including multi-use trails. This project is on hold with the Porirua Adventure Park proposal, which MCG supports, taking over our mantle on Rangituhi.
A number of popular trails had already been built on Rangituhi in partnership with Porirua City Council, the Department of Conservation and local iwi, Ngati Toa. Kēmu o rua haurua, on Tawa’s western hills, was completed in partnership with Wellington City Council and Trails Wellington.
In 2016 MCG won the Enterprise and Sustainability Award at the Porirua Business Awards and we were a finalist in the 2025 Wellington Airport Regional Community Award for Porirua City.
We continue to maintain our trails with regular working parties. Other potential trail areas of interest to us are Battle Hill Farm Forest Park and Whitireia Park.
MCG regularly advocates for general cycling infrastructure to improve safety and connections and get more people on their bikes. We are an officially recognised submitter on Transmission Gully and have been lobbying to ensure cycling connections are not overlooked.
Foster cycling and cycling initiatives within, but not confined to the Mana area (Pukerua Bay to Tawa). Cycling is understood to cover the spectrum from road cycling, through commuting, BMX and mountain biking.
To advocate for and assist in the development of cycling infrastructure within, but not confined to, the Mana area.
To encourage, promote and assist with cycling events within, but not confined to, the Mana area.
